Job Summary | The College of Liberal Arts invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 9-month, tenure-track (annual), Assistant Professor position. Appointment at the Assistant Professor rank is anticipated; however, appointment at a promoted rank may be considered depending upon the qualifications of the successful candidate.Any hiring at the rank of Associate Professor/Professor with indefinite tenure will be subject to a successful out-of-cycle tenure review process: https://facultyaffairs.oregonstate.edu/out-cycle-tenure-review-procedure.The School of Psychological Science resides in the College of Liberal Arts. The primary mission of the School is undergraduate and graduate education and research. The School offers BA and BS degrees, an undergraduate minor, and a Ph.D. in Psychology.This position is part of a multi-disciplinary investment in the College to strengthen capacity for large-scale, interdisciplinary, cutting-edge research in emerging media and technology through tenure line hires. Consistent with OSU’s new Strategic Plan, this line is one of two current tenure-line searches in addition to two previous successful searches that support building transdisciplinary teams in areas of strategic focus and turning our foundational strengths into accelerated applications with far-reaching, lasting public value. Key Responsibilities | 45% ResearchResponsibilities include carrying out an active program of research in area of specialization leading to the production of scholarship in the form of books, monographs, articles in refereed journals, and other similar scholarly productions.Sustain a record of scholarly achievement that is of a high standard. Research may be conducted solo or in collaboration with colleagues.45% Teaching, Advising, and MentoringTeach 4 classes each academic year (0.09 FTE x 4 classes = .36 FTE). Duties include face-to-face classroom, hybrid, Ecampus, and Honors teaching, communicating with students (through office hours, email, phone calls, discussion boards, etc.) and course development. Teaching obligations belong to the appointment period, not only to the scheduled dates of the class sessions, and may include such tasks, before and after the final date of the course, as: developing course curricular proposals; preparing and revising courses; participating in periodic reviews (e.g., as required by faculty senate for baccalaureate core courses); responding to grade complaints; responding to requests from students for letters of recommendation; grading work and processing paperwork for students with incomplete contracts; and similar post-term activities. Advising and mentoring includes graduate and undergraduate advising and mentoring on programs of study, thesis projects, independent studies, career preparation and opportunities, graduate or professional school applications, and the like. As appropriate, faculty serve as the employment supervisor for GTAs and/or contribute to evaluations of GTAs, tasks which are considered as part of this section.Mentoring Psychological Science PhD students (.09 FTE) at a sustained, high level, to include managing a research lab capable of producing fundable research and career-ready PhD graduates; training PhD students to complete non-thesis research projects including First Year Project, co-authoring journal publications with PhD students; co-authoring and co-presenting conference publications with PhD students; writing and submitting grants to support PhD students and advising PhD students in writing grants and fellowships; writing, conducting, and grading preliminary written and oral exams; and mentoring students through the dissertation. Includes regular lab group and 1:1 meetings with PhD students, typically through PSY 501/601 courses, and colloquia.10% ServiceDuties include service to the School, College, and University in the form of committee work; participating in program reviews and assessment; reviewing colleagues’ courses as required for promotion and tenure; and attendance at appropriate School, College, and University meetings and events (e.g., faculty meetings, SPS retreat, CLA Day, Psychology Graduation Celebration).Providing service to the broader professional community, through attendance and presentations at meetings; manuscript, grant, and award reviewing; journal editing; and leadership activities in professional and scientific organizations is also an important part of the position.Oregon State University is committed to maintaining and enhancing its collaborative and inclusive community that strives for equity and equal opportunity. What You Will Need | Required Qualifications for All Ranks:Ph.D. in any area of psychology by the start date.Research specialty in emerging technology (e.g., engineering psychology, human factors, human-computer interaction, training, AR/VR, wearable devices.Experience in undergraduate teaching online, hybrid, and/or face-to-face undergraduate or teaching-related professional development psychology courses.Demonstrable experience with and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in research, teaching, and/or service.This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq.
